Cripps was converted into a party barn 25 years ago by Mark and Felicity Henriques – before they knew it they had become the rave centre of Gloucestershire. At their wedding they had an ‘asado’ which is a whole lamb cooked over a bbq. This was a wedding present, and to this day their guests still talk about that lamb. Consequently when they started Cripps Barn, whole lambs were the only food option they offered, being determined to have great food that was all cooked on the day by them and not to be overly fussy. Although they have now handed over to professionals their ethos about food is still the same, but there is a lot more choice. The couple are both still very much involved with the barn. Mark is now scouring the countryside for further barns that have the same charm as Cripps Barn, it’s a tough job!
Unique Cotswolds wedding venues with a boho rustic vibe don’t get better than this.
Cripps Barn love relaxed, and don’t do corporate. For an outside wedding there is a lovely green oak ceremony shelter, brides enter the glade through our beautiful beech tunnel. You are welcome to eat informally, outside on the lawn shaded by mature trees and food can be cooked on the outside b.b.q. or inside on the rotisserie. By night there are fire pits on the terrace and you are positively encouraged to have a huge bonfire where guests can toast marshmallows. There are flares, lanterns in the trees and masses of other twinkly lights to create a truly magical, festival vibe. Outside on the lawn there is plenty of space for games and for more robust games, a field in front of the barn. Unique Cotswolds wedding venues that allow guests to camp for the night of the wedding are not in abundance so you will be thrilled to know that there is guest camping here, plus ‘the couples camping’ too.
Cripps barn is surrounded by fields and woodland and is ‘as it always has been’, the only features added to the bare Cotswold stone walls, are a flagstone floor, a large open fireplace and some heating. You can feast on whole bbq’d lambs at the oak trestle tables, or delicious rotisserie suckling pig, chicken or duck, alternatively you can also go completely vegetarian, with the new vegetarian feast menu.
