Wedding venue lockdown. What on earth must they be up to!?
I asked our very ow, family run Truly Quirky Wedding Venue, Penton Park, what it’s been like NOT hosting weddings this summer…
“Lockdown life at Penton Park has mostly been trying to stay on top of the numerous jobs our wonderful team would usually be here taking care of. From housekeeping and gardening to general maintenance work. The house is also a family home, rooms that would usually be busy with ceremonies and celebrations have been taken over for homeschooling!
Spring passed, summer began (bar the odd shower) and the grounds have been in full bloom, including the wisteria on the house and the gazebo which has flowered and looks stunning.
We’ve been busy doing the gardening, including planting several new trees and bulbs, weeding and lawn maintenance. Furthermore, we’ve finally had the time to create a fabulous garden kitchen in the allotment. This is great news for the Penton Park bar as it means we can now grow lots of lovely, fragrant herbs to go in our extensive selection of gins. A positive of wedding venue lockdown if ever I hear one.
General maintenance jobs are always hard to fit in during peak wedding season, so the downtime has meant we’ve been able to get on top of our ongoing to do list. We’ve booked in repairs to four large windows that were in need of some tlc. A huge achievement has been finding the location of a leak in the basement that we’ve been unable to find the source of for 20 years . . .this has finally been found and fixed!
A brand new gate has been fitted at the main entrance to the house. Our log store is now fully prepped ready for our winter weddings and the basement wine cellar has been fully cleared ready to make way for new stock.
Our sister company Penton Park Brewery has been busy giving away (socially distanced) free beer every weekend in return for a donation to the NHS. In total they’ve raised £1,838 which is just incredible and a big thank you goes out to all our lovely customers for their generous donations.
On the administration side, wedding venue lockdown means all weddings until September have sadly been postponed but all clients have been offered alternative dates either later in 2020 or 2021. We’ve been publishing blogs to help support couples during this time and keeping an ongoing presence on social media platforms. We’re continuing to support our couples on their wedding journey however we can, remotely, during these strangest of times.
Please do pop over to our own blog which has some great advice from one of our 2019 couples who booked their wedding remotely from South East Asia.
We’re currently offering virtual or socially distanced viewings so please do call us on 01264 772400 or use the contact form on our venue page if you’d like to have a chat about your wedding and have a look around.

Thank you Penton Park
